Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Feeling stuck after a painful experience is completely natural. Our brains are designed with “fight, flight, or freeze” instincts to protect us from danger - but sometimes, the distress from a difficult event lingers long after it’s over. Those memories, images, and emotions can resurface unexpectedly, leaving you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or as if you’re reliving the moment all over again.

EMDR is a gentle, research-backed form of trauma therapy that utilizes bilateral stimulation to help your brain process difficult experiences and restore its natural sense of balance.  Using a structured, 8-phase approach, EMDR targets past experiences, present disturbances, and future actions.  Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn’t require you to share every detail of what happened or complete homework between sessions. Instead, it helps your brain naturally release the emotions, thoughts, and body sensations that have been keeping you stuck in the past.

Through EMDR therapy, you’ll still remember the event, but it will no longer feel as raw or overwhelming.  The fight, flight, or freeze response from the original experience is resolved, allowing space for calm, clarity, and emotional healing.  Many clients find they make meaningful progress in fewer sessions than with other types of therapy, opening the door to lasting relief, resilience, and a renewed sense of peace.

If you’re ready to move beyond the past and begin your healing journey, EMDR therapy can help you reclaim your sense of safety and strength.

When to Seek EMDR Therapy

EMDR therapy is not a one-time or quick-fix approach - it’s a carefully guided process that unfolds over time.  Regular sessions help maintain the momentum needed for your brain to continue healing and integrating new insights between appointments.  While EMDR is not the right fit for everyone, those who commit to attending consistently often experience deeper, more lasting results.  EMDR is proven to be effective in helping clients heal from a variety of challenges:

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias
  • Chronic Illness and medical issues
  • Depression and bipolar disorders
  • Dissociative disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Grief and loss
  • Pain
  • Performance anxiety
  • Personality disorders
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma and stress-related issues
  • Sexual assault
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Substance abuse and addiction
  • Violence and abuse
